Wow, when Pixar hits the mark it’s really great entertainemt. Walle is the story of a robot named WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter, Earth-Class), who apart from his cockroach friend is the only other being left on earth. He’s been there hundreds of years compacting our waste, collecting junky souvenirs and watching a VCR tape of "Hello Dolly". Then SHE arrives, EVE, a sleek egg shaped research probe. Eve is sent out to find life (which she does with Walle’s help ) and report back to the spaceship in a galaxy far far away where all humans now live.
The movie is completely captivating, particularly the beginning which unfolds without much/any real dialogue. It’s as haunting and beautiful as a Chaplin film. It also serves as cautionary tale about destroying the planet and what we’ll turn into because of own sloth and addiction to technology. The humans are like inflatable balloons whose sausage-like appendages have basically become useless due to well, lack of use. Lots of heroics by our automated duo aided by a team of misfit robots to override the Evil Hal-like computer and reclaim earth. Two big thumbs up from all of my family members ages 8-77.
