Getting ready to head out to LA to attend the NAACP Image Awards. If you’ve missed my earlier bragging my mom’s book Down to Business: The first 10 steps to entrepreneurship for women was nominated (I’m her co-author). Anyway we’re in a category with Steve Harvey and Hill Harper so we will not be winning, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be looking good. So here’s the bargain black/tie/televised award show wardrobe rundown. First my mom who actually out bargained my by getting a $350 formal at Lord and Taylor and after discounts, clearance markdowns and coupons paid only 80 bucks. You Rock Mom! I’ve yet to see it but is sounds beautiful. I recycled a dress I bought from my PR days. It was used in a photo shoot and the manufacturer was selling off end of season inventory so I bought the dress and matching shoes together for $50….but like sometime in the late 90’s. Wore it once to a fancy event and it’s been in the closet ever since. But now it’s back from the dead and all I needed to do was get the shoes repaired. That ran me $32, I bought a wrap on Amazon for $25 and had to buy some boobs since the dress is cut low. Found an adhesive push up backless bra thing at Target that a friend of mine swears by for $16 but I had a gift card. The most expensive part of my outfit was earrings I had made at Brooklyn Bead Box. They set me back $45
but match the dress perfectly. So for $100 (more of less) I’m red carpet ready….and watch out for your kneecaps Mr. Harvey.
